Thanksgiving Meal Plan

November 19, 2018

Instead of a weekly meal plan this week, I’m going to do an all-star line up of Thanksgiving dishes. Hope you find something to inspire you! Happy Thanksgiving!

Appetizer

Cheese Puffs

These are legendary in our family. I have my Pepperage Farm thin-sliced white bread in my freezer all year so I can make these but they are particularly good on Thanksgiving. This blog post has really old photos but they are very detailed and will help show you how to make them.

Turkey

Let’s just stick with Ina Garten’s Perfect Roast Turkey. Ok, fine, you want to brine it? Here is Alton Brown’s turkey recipe.

Potatoes

This Potato Gratin from Alice Waters via Alexandra Cooks looks like heaven. I’m always amazed that such simple ingredients make the best dishes, and this is a classic example of that.

Stuffing

This one is SO personal. Almost everyone I know has a traditional way to make this and doesn’t even pay attention to suggestions for something off-script, and my family is no exception. My mom minces celery, onions and carrots in a meat grinder – as weird as that sounds, the fine texture is now part of the tradition – and then sautés them in butter and adds sausage. She might rotate the actual bread from year to year, but the flavors are the same.

If we were going to deviate from tradition, this Stuffing with Chestnuts and Pancetta from Giada sounds amazing. Chestnuts are sometimes hard to find, sometimes hard to crack open, but they add this distinctive flavor that smells and tastes like the Holidays.

Green Beans

These French Green Beans with Butter and Herbs from Elise at Simply Recipes look so good!

Cranberry Something

I made this Cranberry Pear Chutney for the blog a few years ago and it is still one of my favorite things I ever made. Makes a great hostess or holiday gift too!

Sweet Potatoes

Tieghan from Half Baked Harvest is just hitting the ball out of the park on her blog constantly. These sweet potatoes with bacon and pecans are no exception.

Salad

This Fall Salad with Pears, Pomegranate and Goat Cheese is SO good!

Dessert/Pie

Sure, there are the classics, but we love Emeril Lagasse’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie.

Going to help my daughter make it this year!  It is so much more fun to celebrate a holiday when you’ve contributed something right?

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! xoxo Katie
