Christmas Treats

December 20, 2013

I am super zen this Christmas…not sure why exactly other then having a baby tends to force you to keep things real. So I am doing the traditions I love:

1. Aly’s Favorite Sugar Cookie Recipe. THE best. My sister has tried a ton of sugar cookie recipes over the years, mainly to make us all bunny cookies with our names on them at Easter, but her search is our gain. The trick of the 400 degree oven for 6 min. keeps them soft on the inside, butter crust on the out.

2. Donna’s Overnight Cinnamon Sticky Buns: I first had these at one of my best friend’s homes at Easter. I love them so! The butter and butterscotch pudding make them come out super gooey, and you can make them the night before, let them sit in the oven, then hit bake while the presents are opening. Thanks, Donna! (Photo=before baking. They puff up golden and chewy to rival any sticky bun ever).

3. Breakfast Strata for Christmas Breakfast – this recipe is super close to my mother-in-law’s. I just love the dry mustard zing in it, and I usually put in red and green peppers for Christmas.

4. Cheese Puffs – They just say holiday.

I am also trying a few new favorites:

1. Making these Melted Snowman Cookies for my daughters class:

2. Red Wine Beef Stew from Jacques Pepin: I had this amazing Red Wine Beef Stew at Sunday River when we went skiing so this is the recipe I am going to use to try to duplicate the dish for Christmas Eve. Did I mention they served it with Horseradish Sour Cream? Yes, yes they did.

3. Salmon en Croute: I found this recipe by Rachel Ray and I am going to tweak it for my non-mushroom loving husband and use zucchini, summer squash and a dill cream sauce with rice.

4. Making Alice Water’s Baked Potato Gratin for Christmas Dinner with our Beef Tenderloin. I love how simple the ingredients are: potatoes, thyme, cream, butter, parm.

In the non-food world:

1. Aren’t these shirts from Old Navy cute?

2. What to get the boy who has tons of Legos? (My son is obsessed).

3. Chanel Serum – this stuff is AMAZING. It makes your skin look like a 25 year olds. It is also $100 at Macy’s, but I just found it here for only $60. Cheaper then a face lift or a 7 day vacation.

Ok, my blogging slacking-turned-dumping is over for now. Merry Christmas and Happy Eating!!

xoxo Katie
